The Vive Pro has 160% higher resolution than the older Vive Pro, and nearly 30% higher resolution than the already incredibly clear HP Reverb G2. We've paired it with the best tracking system, the same base stations the Valve Index uses, and rather than the older Vive wands we've paired it with the best controllers, the Valve Index Knuckles controllers with finger tracking.

The super high resolution screens can run at either the standard 90 Hz or faster 120 Hz for super smooth play (the Valve Index can go up to 144 Hz but at a lower resolution than the Vive Pro 2). This headset will amaze you, and while it runs best with a very high spec Gaming PC, you can adjust the resolution on a sliding scale to ensure your PC runs it smoothly while still looking clear. An NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 480 or greater is required, or an RTX 20 or 30 series card, or an AMD Radeon 5000 or greater, is needed for full resolution mode.

To stay safe, as with other headsets when setting it up, you make a virtual boundary of your play area, and it learns the layout. Then if you move your head or arm to the boundary, the Chaperone guidance system warns you with a grid in your vision.

HTC offers a free download to check your PC's compatibility, this can be downloaded here: PC Check. Due to the complex nature of PC and hardware compatibility however, this should used as a rough guide only and not any type of guarantee that it will work. Also SteamVR Performance Test is free and can be used to benchmark your PC, showing you how well it may run VR.

The minimum system requirements for the headset include:

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, AMD RX 480 equivalent or better to run. Or GeForce RTX 20 Series (Turing) or AMD Radeon 5000 (Navi) generations or newer required for Full Resolution mode.

CPU: Intel i5-4590, AMD Ryzen 1500 equivalent or greater

RAM: 8 GB or more

Hard Drive: 30 GB or more of free space

Video Output: Display Port 1.2 Output or Mini DisplayPort 1.2 (Note: It doesn't work with HDMI)

USB Port: 1x USB 3.0 or better

Operating System: Windows 10

Extra Requirements: You will need administrator access rights on your PC to use the VR headset. If you're using a work supplied PC, please check with your IT department that you have administrator rights.

Note: The Vive Pro 2 is recommended for indoor use, and we cannot guarantee the tracking will work outdoors.

You need a minimum of 1 x 1 meter of free space to use the Vive Pro 2, however some content will work best with a minimum play area of 2 x 1.5 meters. The two sensors need:

  • Higher than anyone who will be standing or sitting in the area
  • In opposite corners from each other, with clear light of sight to each other
  • No more than 7 meters apart
  • Each sensor has a 2.2 meter power cable which needs plugging in

We include clamps, which attach to the sensor, and clamp onto a flat surface up to about 5cm thick. If there's nowhere to attach those however, we also rent 1.8 meter tall light stands, but they do take up more floor space.

Running more than one Vive Pro 2 close by can be glitchy because of interface from the sensors. However separating them by thick fabric or other surfaces, should mean you can run multiple Vive's next to each other. This is how VR arcades run multiple Vive Pro 2 in one room.

Aside from the gear we provide, you may need a desktop PC. If you don't have a PC, we also rent those. You just need a monitor or a TV with an HDMI input (almost any TV in the past 10 years, and most monitors).
