A simulated scene comparing the Crystal to a headset like the Meta Quest 2
The Pimax Crystal Light is the highest resolution headset we've ever had, featuring a 2880 x 2880 per eye resolution for an incredibly detailed image. This is especially ideal for racing simulators and flight simulators. Or if you'd like to play more general games, we also have an option for including two SteamVR 2.0 Base Stations, Valve Index controllers, and installing DAS Headphones.
To compare the resolution to other headsets, the Pimax Crystal Light offers approx. 8.3 megapixels per eye, a touch higher than the Varjo Aero, but much higher than the HP Reverb G2 which features 4.7 megapixels per eye. To get the most out of the headset, a powerful gaming PC is needed, but with the built-in 120hz eye tracking you're able to just render the parts you're looking at in the highest quality, keeping the hardware requirements reasonable. Pimax recommends an RTX 2070 or above.

More detailed information can also be seen in our how VR Rentals Work page.
The minimum system requirements for the headset include:
GPU: Pimax recommends a RTX RTX 2070 and above. For AMD, that would roughly be a radeon 5700 XT. The 3090Ti however is not compatible.
CPU: Intel i5-12500, AMD R7-3700X equivalent or greater
RAM: 16 GB or more
Video Output: Display Port 1.4 Output (Note: It doesn't work with HDMI)
USB Ports: 1x USB 3.0 or better
Operating System: Windows 10 (64-bit) or Windows 11
Extra Requirements: You will need administrator access rights on your PC to use the VR headset. If you're using a work supplied PC, please check with your IT department that you have administrator rights.
Note: The Pimax Crystal Light is recommended for indoor use, and we cannot guarantee the tracking will work outdoors.
You need a minimum of 1 x 1 meter of free space to use the headset, however some content will work best with a minimum play area of 2 x 1.5 meters. If you're also renting the 2.0 Base Stations (just useful for more general gaming, not so much for sim use), the two sensors need:
- Higher than anyone who will be standing or sitting in the area
- In opposite corners from each other, with clear light of sight to each other
- No more than 7 meters apart
- Each sensor has a 2.2 meter power cable which needs plugging in
Again if also renting the base stations, we include clamps for them which clamp onto a flat surface up to about 5cm thick. If there's nowhere to attach those however, we also rent 1.8 meter tall light stands, but they do take up more floor space.
The minimum technical requirements for your PC are listed in the tab above, but also don't hesitate to Contact Us if you have any questions.
